Work at only three collenes, amt one of these working at only half force, was the extent of the coal-mining done in Fifeshire to-day. Communists persuaded five hundred of the fifteen hundred employees at the Lewi-Merthyr mine, at Trehafod, in Wales, not to descend the shaft.

Six hundred more miners struck at Tareni Colliery in Swansea Valley, as a protest against the terms erf the South Wales Miners’ Federation settlement, which most of the districts have accepted. This strike is expected to cease to-morrow.

All of the North Wales pits have resumed.

Tliere are three thousand men at the Easington colliery now idle, owng to a hitch over a new agreement. Here an early settlement is expected. Hon. Mr shimvell (Under-Secretary for Mines), conferred with, representatives of the employers and the employees in order to explore plans for a settlement of a permanent nature for South Wales and of a temporary nature for Scotland, regarding which lie declares hunself to be optimistic.
