TALKIE STAR
MOBBED IN LONDON. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright]. LONDON, November 29/ A multitude of flappers, old and young, invaded the Victoria Station and mobbed the movie Star, Maurice Chevalier, who appears definitely to have dethroned Rudolf ALilentind. Chevalier arrived by a special train, and he thus had a platform to himself. The crowd passed the time singing Chevalier songs, and when he appeared there was an immense uproar, the girls throwing kisses, waving handkerchiefs, and crying welcomes to which Chevalier, who was wearing his grey “Trilby” famous straw hat. pursed his lips, expressing wonder, and waved in the direction of the seething crowd. Gramophones continued to play his songs. Chevalier then stepped to a microphone installed on the platform, and in hesitating English, said: “T am happy to return to London.” Only one girl secured an autograph, but a number of girls managed to perch on the running board of Chevalier’s motor car for a few seconds until a po(ruiird pushed them off.
