INDIAN CONFERENCE

POSITION OF BURMA.

(Official Wireless)

(Received this day at 11.30 a.m.! RUGBY, December 1.

The Indian Round Table Conference decided to set up a special committee to consider the nature of the conditions which would enable Burma to be spearaeted from India on equitable terms, and to recommend the best way of securing this end. A Ba Pe presenting the Burman viewpoint said .the people desired sepaiation as they felt as part of India, their national status was liable to disappear. They desired self-government and a footing with other dominions and under the same Crown. Lord Reading said there seemed a consensus of opinion favouring separation from India. There were many questions such as finance, defence, and minorities which could only be settled by a special body set up for the purpose.
