NEW PLYMOUTH PETITION. < . MEETING PASSES RESOLUTION. : NEAV PLYMOUTH, November 30. About one hundred persons crowded round the doors, and forty more were counted as they left' the hall oh Saturday night, after passing unanimously I resolutions - asking for., tile , inpuediate 1 release from prison of Abraham. Wally Mahomed Salaman, the Indian herbal, ist, recently found guilty of manslaughter of a boy who was taken to him for treatment for diabetes, and who was sentenced to twelve months. The meeting was intensely enthusiastic, the remarks of the'speaker's being freely punctuated with applause. The I following resolutions were directed to ibe telegraphed to the Acting-Piime i Minister, Mr Coates, and Mi D E. 1 Holland: — . . . ; , / ! “That Salaman,' in"lT)£ unanimous opinion of this meeting, should be released from, gaol at With all due respects, to the ..Ch]ef _ Justice, Salaman, in the opinion of this. meeting is no charlatan. I (4) “That, having been informed I that the police have intimated their intention of proceeding with certain minor charges against Salaman in the Magistrate’s Court, this meeting respectfully suggests that the : Minister jof Justice should give the necessary instructions that these charges he not ; proceeded with, in view of Salaman’s j conviction on the major charge.” Petition lists praying for Salaman’s release were distributed, and were largely signed.
