Takapuna Jockey (Jui'j’s spring meeting opened in fine weather. The course was in good order. The attendance was 'between 9000 and 10,CD, a record for the spring meeting. Great interest was taken in the five shilling tote innovation. The 5s windows wore heavily patronised, necessitating an increase in their number. Hie machine handled, £36,516 15s compared with £42,500 .on the first day last year, a decrease -of £5983 ss. The result was considered very satisfactory. Mel rose Maiden Stakes.—(2) Chief Joy 1, (4) Camp Princess 2, (1) Operatic 3. Won by three-quarters of a length a neck. Time 1.3 3-5.
