Before commencing the remedial measures recommended by Professoi Hornell to enable Arapuni works to resume operations, Hon Air laverner has decided that complete plans and estimates must first be made available, i fie work has been proceeding on these lines. One of the most interesting features is the consideration of measures to prevent any further erosion of the country below the spillway dam, which will he one of the most expensive parts of the project. The Minister has approved of the construction of models of this part ot the eounti \, and he yesterday wimessed some inteiesting tests with these, which aic capable.of demonstrating the hehav.our nf the mei'llow from the spillway under the varying conditions which may he imposed by the protective works under construction, lhe model is on the scab- of four feet to one inch., Ihe experiments are being made with the object of designing bailies to slow down the rate of the flow between each fall. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the experiments, which would save a good deal of money, and enable the work, once started, to proceed with confidence. ‘ 1
