Against Victoria, the West Indians won the toss and decided to have the first use of a slow wicket. Their batsmen were very cautious at the start, the scoring being extremely slow. Ironmonger wan in iiis best form, turning the ball well. At one stage lie had captured lour wickets for eight runs, three batsmen successively failing to score.
Headley and Constantine then changed the aspect of affairs, the latter making thirty-four in thirty-three minutes, but without wild hitting, lie scored three boundaries.
The century was brought up in one hundred and nine minutee. Headley was hatting gracefully. With Hunts lie added seventy-seven for the seventh wicket, Hunts’ share being only sixteen. Headley reached the century in one hundred and thirteen minutes. Mis second fifty was scored in forty-four minutes, Headley’s full batting time being one hundred and forty-one minutes. He hit fourteen boundaries. Ho gave no semblance of a chance. His was altogether the innings of a champion, and he thoroughly deserved his splendid ovation. The time of the full innings was 183 minutes.
The visitors were greatly excited when Constantine bowled Woodfull for a duck. The. other Victorian batsmen gave a neat display, without taking ri/sks with the accurate bowling and keen fielding. The century was brought up in seventy-nine minutes. Pension! scored, lii.s fifty in 93 minutes. CHRISTCHURCH, November 28. The New Zealand Crickot Council has authorised Mr Arthur Sims, now in Australia, to negotiate wi.th the Australian Board of Control for the visit of an Australian team, leaving Australia on Ala roll 6th. It is almost certain that the following players will he included in the team: Bradman. Jackson, Riheardson, Marlev, Rigg. Allsopp. Harris. Oldfield, Grimmett. and probably Moodfull and Pousford. If arrangements can he concluded, two matches against New Zealand can be played before the New Zealand team leaves for England.
