NEW LIGHTHOUSE TENDER
EFFICIENT AND SEAWORTHY. AUCKLAND, November 26. Keen satisfaction with the efficiency and seaworthiness of the Government’s new lighthouse steamer Matai was expressed by the Minister for Marine, the Hon. J, B. Donald, on returning from a short cruise in the steamer in the Hauraki Gulf. “The vessel is a credit to the designers and builders,” said the Minister. “The master, Captain J. Burgess, also spoke very highly of the Matai’s seaworthiness and handiness for the special work of tending the lighthouses.” Mr Donald, who was accompanied on the cruise by Captain T. Atwood, Superintendent of Mercantile Marine, and Mr Flynn, Inspector of Fisheries, Auckland, said the cruise had added considerably to ! his knowledge of the fisheries of the Hauraki'Gulf and the scenic beauties of the Great Barrier Island.
Mr Donald" Added that the accommodation fdr u the G overn or-G ene'ra 1, without beings unduly ornate, seemed to he very comfortable, and he thought his Excellency would find that the ship would serve his purpose well when he had occasion to use it to visit the outlying portions of the Dominion.
