BRITAIN'S CONTROL OF NATIVE POLICY.

Rt. Hon. ,J. H. Thomas (Minister for the Dominions), (stated in tho House of Commons that Sir Herbert Stanley would take up his new appointment a,s High 'Commissioner in South Africa. This was to meet the changed position of the Governor-General. Following upon the decisions of the Imperial Conference, the British Government was to be responsible for the native policy in Basutoland, the Becuanalancl Protectorate and the Swaziland, and for 'dc if tain Supervisory functions in relation to native affairs in Southern Rhodesia. The Governor-General of South Africa, would not now bo -responsible to the Dominions Minister. n nd it was essential tliu.t the conti ol of native policy must 'be in the hands of someone directly responsible, to him.
