N.Z. EMPLOYERS’ FEDERATION. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 19. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, Air Shailer AVeston delivered a presidential address. Officers were elected as follows : President, Air Shailer AVeston; vicepresident, Air AA r . D. Hunt; treasurer, Air H. Coulls; trustee (additional), Air A. C. Alitchell; auditor, Air H. Vickery. THE NEW “MONOWAI,” AVELLINGTON, November 18. When the Union’s Company’s new Pacific liner Alonowai leaves AA’ellington on December 2 on her first run to San Francisco, she will sail under the command of Captain A. T. Toten,. who was master of the Tahiti. AA’ith him will sail also six engineers, two wireless operators, and the chief and second stewards of the Tahiti. FRAUD AND THEFT. BLENHEJAI, November 19. Roy Gladstone Ewart pleaded not guilty to ' a charge that, with intent to defraud, he attempted to obtain £6OO from the Phoenix Assurance Company by allegedly falsely representing that the residue stock in a mercery shop at which a fire took place was £9OO, whereas, it was in fact only £9l. He was further charged with making a false declaration with regard to an insurance claim. He pleaded not guilty, as lie also did to three charges of allegedly receiving sums ranging from £2/2/- to £5/10/- from clients of N. Tossrnan and Company, furriers, of Christchurch, failing to account for sums, thus committing theft. Several similar theft charges, involving sums below £2/0/- were adjourned, pending the Supreme Court sitting to which accused was committed for trial on the major counts. KILLED BY CAR. HAMILTON, November 20. Knocked down by a motor car near Ngaruawaliia cemetery on Alonday evening, Christopher Alillar, a farmhard 65 years, succumbed to- his injuries at AVaikato hospital last evening. Deceased was walking home from the AVaikato- races when he was knocked down by a- car driven by F. Mason, a car salesman of Huntley. H|C was suffering from a severe- -fracture o-f the skull, head and abrasions.
