ANNUAL CONFERENCE
SOUTH ISLAND POULTRY, PIGEON, AND CANARY ASSOCIATION.
HELD AT TOWN HALL, HOKITIKA
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19
EVENING SITTING
The Conference which adjourned at 1.15 p.rri. resumed at 7.30' p.m. In the interim a 'Sub-Committee had drawn the championships to be allotted the various Clubs at their shows for the ensuing year. Those allotted to West Coast Clubs are as follows;
Hokitika.—Old English Game; Ancona open; Silver Wyandotte open; Sussex open. Greymouth.—Barred Plymouth Rock open; Utility White Plymouth Rock; Duck or Drake open A.0.V.; Seabright Bantam; Persian female cat over 8 months.
Kokatahi.—‘Utility Brown Leghorn; Pekin Bantam.
Grfinity.—Utility Minorca; Indian Game; Black Rosecomb Bantam; White Leghorn onen. Westport.—Modern Game Bantam; Utility White Wyandotte; Utility Orpington any colour. Walmangaroa.—Rhode Island Red Open ; Utility White Leghorn; Utility Silver Wyandotte.
Reefton. —Open Leghorn other than white; Old English Game Bantam. ;V j
The President extended a welcome to Mr J. J. Breeze, who was present, though not in the best of health, Mr Breeze thanked the President for his welcome and regretted his; inability to have been present the previous evening. ;■
A letter was received ‘ from A. Hopkinson, Grevniouth, expressing appreciation of the work of the Conference and the manner in which it was conducted; regretting that he would not be able to be present that evening. The President expressed appreciation of file sentiments expressed. REMITS. , *»' The question of allowing ; ringed birds from egg laying competitions to he shown without the removal of the vings, was discussed at some;, length. It was resolved to make a recommendation to the Clubs to favourably consider the inclusion of this condition on their programmes. .
Two - championships ■ • ware . granted for Hamburgs to the New Zealand Utility Poultry. Club. Christchurch • ■ Canterbury Bantam Club.—The Association to award, championship certificate to 1 winning exhibits irrespective of number of exhibitors providing the Judge considers the exhibit worthy of theWaimangaroa Club.—That the number of exhibitors to qualify for the Association’s £1 Is championship prize money he altered from six competitors to four competitors.—Lost. Dunedin Utility Poultry Club.— That the Government be urged to abolish the duty on all grains used for poultry feeding.—Lost. That all birds competing in the Buff Orpington classes to be Buff colour only, cinnamons to be ineligible,Lost. ■ -J V . *r„
That all Clubs having shows provide all pens with the same class of'letter? and that no - letter other than that supplied by the Chib be used.— -Lost. That in the event of the Utility Poultry standard being altered ail clubs affiliated with the Association be notified and alterations bo submitted for approval.—No action. Christchurch Canary Club.—“ln the Canary section a novice shall remain a novice for one season rid matter how many first prizes he or she should win. After ceasing to be a novice an exhibitor shall be entitled to compete in an amateur class until he or she shall have won two first prizes in classes of three or more exhibitors as an amateur, provided also that he or she may finish the season as an amateur.”—Left to Canary Club to approach Christchurch Club. Dunedin Cage Bird Club.—That no Club (be granted a canary championship unless proper show cages are provided, and that a canary judge is appointed to judge the canary section for the chamionship.—rNo action.
Dunedin Specialist Young Bird Club. That no exhibitor be allowed to put any litter in the show pens other than that supplied by the Society .holding the Show. —Lost.
Greymoiith Poultry (Tub.—That the oast two years performances of judges be indicated on the association’s approval list.—Was withdrawn. That a. standard entry fee and scale of prize money .be adopted for cat and rabbit classes, as in poultry sections.—Left to Clubs to make mutual arrangements.
That models or plates representing standard types of each breed in Utility classes be shown in the vicinity of each breed at shows.—Left to Chib to take action if desired. That a Judges card system be adopted the Judges to state defects on such cards.—Lost.
New Zealand Utilitv. Poultry Club. That t-be South Island Poultry Association approach Distributors Ltd. with a view to obtaining an improvement in the standard supplied poultrymen of bran and pollard.—Approved; the Executive to make an emphatic protest.
Christchurch Poultry Club.—That the Association make representations to the Government to net wheat placed on the duty free list, in order to assist poultry keepers in their business.—Lost.
That ell affiliated dubs provide pro-' nor printed prize cards at their shows, both for class and special prizes.— Carried.
Lyttelton Club.—The addition to Rule fi after the word association in the last, line following all appoint-
ments to be by nominating such nominations to be in ■ the hands of- the 1 Secretaries of (the Chibs before the annual meeting-' four weeks.—Carried* That any exhibitor wishing to appeal against the decision of a Judge must first protest to the Olulb concerned before forwarding an appeal to the Associ ation.—Carried.' That considering the large increase in entries in Utility Minorca classes, the association move them up ,to the level of the White Leghorns and allot two championships one for male and one for female,—Carried..
Christchurch-Cat and Pet Society.— That the necessary quorum . for . Cat arid Kittenvchampionships. be reduced from 6 to 4 competitors.—Lost. By Council.—That, the age for Kitten • Championships be. raised from 6 months to 8 months.—Adopted. The usual vote of-£25 was passed to the Secretary.
The, President • moved a hearty vote of thanks to last . year’s officers. —Carried by acclamation,, / . A - vote of thanks .was passed .to the press for the great amount of publicity given during the pant year. Mr Jones (Lyttelton), on behalf of the delegates, extended the season’s greetings, to, the Executive,, wishing them a successful season.; Seconded by. Mr ;J. j. Breeze, the latter conveying the pleasure felt at the Association holding its gathering' at Hokitika.
