MAYOR IN PRISON.
NOT DEPRIVES OF OFFICE
BERLIN, November 4
A prison cell will be the municipal headquarters of the town of Ivlotzsche for the next seven months, and the bur gomaster, Herr Angennann, has taken up his residence there. The burgomaster was sentenced for running down and killing two people with his motor car. The Minister for Home Affairs sought to deprive him of his mayoralty, but the court ruled that the sentence did not affect the honour of Herr Angennann. His fellow-citizens passed a vote of confidence in him, and he retains the if nil salary of his office, as well as free quarters.

AUSTRALIANS SEEK WORK

Attracted apparently by reports of France’s prosperity' a number of Australians have gone to Paris with hopes of securing employment. With their funds almost exhausted, as many as 12 a week recently called on the Australian trade representative in Paris (Mr Voss.)
Foreigners cannot work in France without a special permit. Openings for employment are extremely limited, exiept. for manual labourers, who are being recruited in great numbers from Italy. » c ] a in, Pelgium, Poland, and other countries.
