A THEFT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AVANGANUI, November 15. When all was quiet on Thursday afternoon and the employees of Eatox Beef Company were attending the Wanganui Show, an enterprising thief entered the premises of the Company in the Avenue and stole the cash box containing over £IOO in cash, and cheques. This included the taking from suburban shops owned by the Company. Obviously the thief had some knowledge of the premises. He apparently entered by the back and was also able to secure a key which fitted the safe. A CHILD’S DEATH. HAMILTON, November 17. Arthur Dougla-s Ferguson, the four years old son of George Ferguson of Frankton died from alcoholic poisoning yesterday when he drank two tablespoons of gin from a cup left on a, chair. DEATH IN CAR, AUCKLAND, November 17. A heart seizure which occurred while he was driving a motor car, caused the • death of Edward Louis Boaslev, 'SO, a railway surfaceman, in Queen Street, Onehunga. yesterday afternoon. Beasley had his wife and young child with him When the seizure 'occurred the car swerved across the street, mounted the footpath and came to a rest in a depression in a vacant section. Spectators found Beasley dead. His wife and child were not injured, nor was the car damaged.
DEATH IN CHURCH. TE AWAMUTU, November 17. Albert J. AV. Johnston, a retired postmaster, aged sixty-five, died suddenly while attending the morning service of the Presbyterian Church yesterday, He was noticed to fall back m his seat and, was removed to the vestry, ' where he expired. BOROUGH OFFICE BURGLED. DANNEVIRKE, November 15. The Borough offices were visited between Saturday and Sunday nights, entry being effected by prizing open a window, and four tills were ransacked. The total haul : consisted of bos in money, five shillings in. stamps, and a stale; cheque nearly two years old. r lhe strong room containing a considerable sum was not attempted; CAR ACCIDENT. McLeod, all „f Wellington, left AVangainii in an Austin' car yesterday. , AVhen near AVaiwanae, a tyre burst, -causing the car to sway and capsize over a hank, where it hurst into flames. McLeod, Gregory and Merrick in the back seat, got free hut the former received head injuries. Dennis brothers were severely burnt and were taken to the hospital by Dr. Milne, where their wounds were dressed. They later left for home by ambulance. The car was completely destroyed. To mark the attainment by Palmerston North of the status as a city, celebrations are being held throughout his week, together with New Zealand and Empire week. Special window displays ave being made by the ships while various amusements are arranged. A business men’s luncheon is being held to-day and an old identities gathering on Friday.
