The Government are contributing one third of this amount, BROADCASTING ANNIVERSARY. THE FUTURE OF WIRELESS. LONDON, November 16. To-day is the eighth anniversary of broadcasting in England. Sir Oliver Lodge, predicted in the very near future that the whole world will be linked up and received with the same clearness as local programmes. Mr Eckersley, late engineer of the British Broadcasting Corporation expects in the future that wireless will he laid on in houses instead of being received through sets, and within a decade householders will have buttons to press and an infinite choice of programmes. i LONDON’S NIGHT LIFE. LONDON, November 16. Since Lord Byng is determined to stamp out the undesirable night life in tfie West End illicit‘pleasure resorts are springing up in the Thames Valley and other places within motoring distance from Piccadilly. .Gambling, dancing and all night drinking have developed in at least fifty such establishments. Pretty young dancing hostesses keep the fun going. The resorts are usually richly furnished. The scandal continues because the places are outside the Scotland Yaid area and the local police lack the powers of search held by Lord Byng’s force
