NEW PLYMOUTH, November 14

Battered by mountainous beam seas, and driven before a gale °f almost hurricane force, the steamer Barrdale, which arrived at New Plymouth this afternoon, had an extremely rough voyage from Auckland. The vessel, with 3000 tons of phosphate, left Auckland on Tuesday, and on rounding North Cape, she rnn into rough weather Throughout yesterday the Barrdale average only three knots, and she steamed 20 miles from shore. The nature of her loading caused her to roll violently.

The furniture and fittings were tossed about in the stateroom, where Captain Naylor’s wife had a terrifyving experience. A steward carrying afternoon tea, crashed downstairs, and smashed everything he carried and he was lucky not to be injured. On one occasion the officers dinner'was swept from the tables. The Barrdale had an unlucky voyage. While waiting to load phosphate at Ocean Tslnnd for Auckland and New Plymouth, she drifted for sevent.veirrht days in rough weather. Her provisions were exhausted, when relief was secured from another ship.
