SYDNEY MEAT STRIKE
ABATTOIRS CLOSED. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, November 13The meat workers’ strike here has become more acute by the closing of the Homebush abattoirs. The Chairman of the Metropolitan Meat Board, Mr E. Cramsie, said that the reason for closing the abattoirs was that the Meat Employees’ Union refused to supply labour for the removal of the offal left by the few firms that are operating there, and the abattoirs had been closed in 'the interest of public health. As the offal was accumulating rapidly, it was becoming a menace. There is a committee now organising the master butchers’ plans for dealing with the crisis. It has written to the Master Butchers’ Association, advising them to give their employees a week’s notice, and informing them of drastic increases in prices due to the short supplies.
