OBITUARY

. W. W. WHYSALL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, November 11. The death has occurred of Mr W. W. Wliysall, the Nottinghamshire cricketer, at the age of forty-three-years. Wliysall has been for many seasons prominent in county cricket, and was recognised as one of the batting stalwarts of the Notts team. In 1924-25 he accompanied the English team to Australia. In the 1928 season Whysall, with Payton and George Gunn, headed the batting averages for the third year in success- ' ibn. Whysall enjoyed: great' season /and secured a place amongst the outstanding batsmen of the year. Exception has been taken to Whysall’s stance at the wicket, but he is certainly profited, froqi his practice of standing squabe to the bowler. In championship matches . Whysall averaged 54.62 for forty-seven innings, and his aggregate of 2458 included nine scores of three figures—two each against Yorkshire and Warwickshire. -During recent summers'Whysall has done extraordinarily well against Yorkshire, and in his last J’qruf /matches/ against tljat/country’s bowling he played innings of 184, 163, 166 and To7.’* ■

Whysall again headed the; batting table -in the 1929 season. He was never in beiter form, In the course of the season he mfide seven centuries, ineludjng his biggest, 244,. against Gloucestershire.

His performances in the past season have ‘been quite up to his best standard. Agaihst the Australia touring team scored 120. ‘ .
