CHARGE WITHDRAWN
WOMAN’S REQUEST GRANTED
AUCKLAND, November 10,
When two young men appeared at the Police Court this morning charged with being found without lawful excuse on enclosed promises on Saturday night, their counsel said that tlie woman who laid the charge desited that it should he withdrawn. “That’s all very well,” said ChiefDetective Hamomnd. “She telephoned tlie police, and we sent constables round. We are put to a lot of trouble, and then she wants the charge withdrawn’:^ “These, two men had a certain colour of right,” said counsel. Called upon by the Magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt) for an explanation, tlie woman said that twice recently her house had been broken into. “These two men I found sitting in a motor-oai in the garage, so I called the police, she said. “At first I thought it was something suspicious, hut afterwards I found that they were both nephews of the man to whom I let the garage. Had I known at first, I would not have called tlie police.” “They were both drunk anyway, said Chief-Detective Hammond. The Magistrate allowed tlie charge to be withdrawn.
