BORING FOR OIL
ACTIVITY !N TARANAKI

The latest reports received by the !Jinos Department from the Taranaki oilfields indicate that boring is progressing rapidly and that in several eases company operations have reached an advanced stage Moinroa Oilfields 'Ltd., in p.n licit.nr, report satisfactory holing and the location ol oil in go nil quantities. A depth of HI CO ket has already been reached at this well.
In a report to the Department it is stated that a steady production of oil amounting to 240 gallons a day has been proved possible at a depth o--9700 .cot. There was also a quantity of oil at 2300 feet, lint it was not cer-
tain what this would produce. .It was only alter this level had been passed that the appearanee*- of oil in an quantity became apparent. It was hoped to strike something better at the HUH) feet level, and further operations for the production of oil would he earned out there. Reports from other companies indicate the following depths having hden reached to date:— W'hanga Petroleum Coil Obi (N.Z.), Ltd. —2797 feet.
New Zealand Oil Syndicate, well No. 2. Whaugamomoua—l329 feet. Blenheim Oil Well .Reclamation Company, Li!., No. 2 bore—2loo feet.
