POSTM [STRESS’S THEFTS,

HAMILTON, November 6
Margaret Galbraith Crawford, aged 20, who was charged with the theft of £73 while postihistress at Horotiu, was admitted to probation for 12 months at Hamilton to-day. It was shown by the police that the money 'had been taken over a period of six weeks, and a portion of the money had been spent on a trousseau, in preparation for accused’s marriage, in a few days’ time.
The Magistrate (Mr M’yvern Wilson, S.M.) remarked that he thought she had probably learnt her lesson.
CHEAP JACK FINED
WELINGTON, November '7
David Livingstone stated to have conducted sales of a cheap-jack nature, pleaded guilty to-day at the Magistrate’s Court, to a charge of conducting auction sales in an irregular manner. He was fined £2 10s with costs £6 ss.
Defendant’s business in Wellington it was stated was conducted by the defendant himself who was not the holder of a license, but was paying the holders of a license five per cent. The police stated further, that until the end of the last licensing year, defendant had been using the license of an Australian criminal, who had somehow obtained a New Zealand license,
CLAIM AGAINST BANKRUPT,
DUNEDIN, November 7,
A Supreme Court action, W, Paget Gale v. O’Brien, being a claim for 1750 for damages for wrongful dismissal from the position of organist at the Empire Pictures, has- been settled for £IOOO. As the defendant is bankrupt, plaintiff must prove in estate as an ordinary creditor to the extent of £IOOO.
DAMAGES AGAINST MOTORIST.
November 7.
The jury relumed with a verdict of £33 12s, the full amount of special damages, and £1,204 general damages, in the,claim of Charles Gason.65, gardener, against George Thomas Harris and Mack ay lan Campbell, the result of injuries from a runaway car, which knocked him down in Mein Street, a. year ago. It was admitted that negligence was the cause. Harris was in charge- of the car at the time, and Campbell was the owner.
SIDE SHOW MEX.
ORDERED OFF AT RANGIORA
CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 8
Professional side show men ) for whom no stand had been allotted, conducted their (business despite the protests of the committee at Rangiora A, and P. Show yesterday. Some refused to remove their stands when ordered, and this action led to extra police being summoned from Christchurch. On arrival of the Christchurch police in two car loads, the side show men were escorted off the .ground. As a result, others packed their waves and departed.
