WASHINGTON Nov. 7

Last (iguru-i give the state of parties in the United States House of Representatives as follows: Republicans 216 Democrats 217 Farmer-Labour 1 Doubtful 1 A CLOSE RESULT. (Received this day at 9 a."' WASHINGTON, Nor. 7 The state of parties of the lloiis<of Representatives at noon to-day wa» Republicans elected 217, Democrats 210. Farmer-Labour one. A second representative from Illinois is still doubtful. The Republican is leading but the districts nilreported are considered favourable to the Democratic cause. The result in other districts where the final count close will be challenged and a check sought. Republicans with forty-eight seats in the Senate against Democrats fortyseven appear definitely to have a sufficient margin to control tho chamber to the extent of appointing officers and committee chairmen, counting on the support of one FarmerLabour Senator, although Senator Brookhart (Republican for Iowa) declared to-day ho would support the Democratic organisation of the new Senate if that party sponsored legislation programme he considered satisfactory.
