EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

POSITION OF THE FUND. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, October 31. ■ The last meeting of the Central Earthquake Committee was held on October 22. It was decided to issue a statement of the position of the relief funds and this was released for publication by Hon. E. A. Ransom to-day. The expenditure to October 23 was £118,511 for relief purposes, while outstanding committments mainly on account of grants not yet paid by District Committees and also estimated requirements to meet claims pending total £37,993. The Chairman emphasised that the statement issued is not the final statement of the fund, and that the final figures 'after review by the Audit Office will be published as soon as the work of the District Committees is finished.

Subscriptions, £147,041 6s od, interest on investments made by the Treasurer £1- 10s 6d, interest on moneys deposited with the Public Trustee £4,563 7s 3d; credit and reduction of expenditure £l9 19s 9d ; total £151,637 10s 3d.
