Francis McGovern, 25, a cross-coun-try jockey, who was extradicted from New Zealand recently, came 'before Paddington Court to u day on a charge of stealing jewels valued at £2500 sterling in September last at Point Piper.
The police prosecutor stated after full investigation the police had no evidenco to offer, and McGovern was immediately discharged. His solicitor, Niland, commented on the injustice of the proceedings. The fact that McGovern’s riding license was held in abeyance and he was not allowed hail and also was subjected to humiliation. He was certainly entitled to some redress.
The Stipendiary -Magistrate, Mr Perry, said if the facts were as sifted, McGovern might have a case for Government consideration.
