RADIO PROGRAMME

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29th. The Congress Hall Band, under the conductorship of Mr T. Pa.ice, will provide the major portion of lYA’s programme this evening. The performances of this band are always well worth listening to. Miss Jessie Shmitli, the eminent Australian contralto, will be singing. Novelty piano and vocal items by Mr Eric and Jack are sure to be a welcome addition to the programme, which will also include a gramophone lecture-recital to be given by A Commentator. A very attractive instrumental programme has been arranged by the 3YA £jtu<lio' Octet. The vocal portion of the concert will include operatic and classical numbers as well as ballads and a negro spiritual. The singers will be—-Mrs Sen J owett (mezzo-soprano), Miss Anges Cunningham (soprano), Mr W. J. Trewern (tenor) and Mr Robert Allison (baritone). Humorous elocutionary items will be given by Miss N. Hooper.
To be introduced to New Zealand listeners by 4YA tin's evening, will be a novelty pianist of exceptional merit, Mr Francis X. Mulcahy. This artist has recently come/ from Australia where he won great popularity with his concert - performances, which are marked by great originality. The. Saxophone Band will supply in-strumental-concerted 'items. The remaining artists on what will be a very bright programme will be: Miss Alma. Finnert.y (soprano), Miss N. Warren (elocutioniste). Mr Norman Sou it (who presents light items to guitar accompaniment) and Mr Buster Brown (the well known Scottish comedian). Silent day at 2YA. OCTOBER 30th. The talk from IYA, 2YA and 3YA this afternoon, will Le about “Savoury DishcsD—a. talk prepared by (the Home Science Extension Department of Otago University. A concert of old time songs will be broadcast by IYA this eveni.ng. The vocalists will be the New Clarion Quartet. Many old favourites, songs and older listeners knew in their youth, will be heard. “Radio Magic,” by Mister Bee, will occupy a portion pf the evening’s programme.- Instrumental items will be given by the IT A String Octet, under the direction of Mr J. Whitford Waugh.. A violin solo “The Old Refrain” will be played by Mr Haydn Murray. A popular concert will be presented by 2YA. The Salon Orchestra will contribute to the programme. 'Die. vocalists will be Miss L. M Harwell (soprano), Mis® Edith Buckmaster (contralto), Mr Lewis Campbell (tenor) and Mr Harry Matthew (baritone). Two humorous numbers bv Jefferson Jarjeo.n will be given by Mr Cedric Gardiner, and instrumental novelty .numbers will be given by Reno and Arta, the well known xylophone duo.
Liza Jolnna.nn’s famous song cycle “A Persian Garden,” the verses of which are to be found in the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, will be featured on 3YA’s programme. to be sung by the. newly formed Harmonic Quartet —Miss Sy> f '-ia Angus, Miss Vera Martin. Air James Shaw and Mr E. J. Johnson—to instrumental accompaniment by tbe Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. Tn the second half of the programme the same vocalists will contribute items of a- miscellaneous nature-. Recitations will be given by Miss Florence Browins and there will he flute solos by Air AV. Hay. Of particular interest on the programme will be the item to be given by a brilliant young Christchurch pianirte, Ali ss Alariorie Alexander, who lms been particular successful at Competitions and in Trinity College examinations Silent day at 4YA.
