MANSLAUGHTER CH AR-GE.

Vernon Clemens, a manned man, pleaded not guilty in the Supreme Court to a charge that on August 12 at Templeton lie negligently drove a motor , car so as to cause the death of Edward Reynolds, and thereby eommi tied manslaughter. The Crown Prosecutor said that the case arose out of a collision at the gatofS of the Panama Prison. ' The prosecution alleged that the fault was the prisoner’s on the grounds that he driving too fast, and did not hare his car under control, and was not keeping a proper look out.
The victim of the accident was a business man of Wellington. On the day in question he had been conferring with the firm of Adams Ltd., and intended going to the West Coast. The prisoner was instructed to drive the car while Reynolds and the Representative Adams Dal. com tinned their negotiations in the back seat. '
•Nine miles out from Christchurch, at the gates of Paparua Prison, the car collided with a heavy lorry driven by a man named Page. The lorry had just come out of the gates.
NEGLIGENT DRIVING.
PALMERSTON N., Got. 29.
At the Supreme Court, Charles John Dunbar Skinner, an indent agent of Feilding, was charged with driving negligently, thereby causing the death of a school girl,' Betty Francis Albrey. The charge wrjs the sequel to an accident at Oroua Downs on September 15th when a child aged seven years received injuries from which she died in the hospital six days later.
CAR AND LORRY COLLIDE
FOXTON, October 29.
A seda.ii car, driven by A. Powell of Marton, accompanied by J. Manngh of Marton, came into , violent collision with a dairy farmer’s cream lorry at Hiniitangi this morning. Managh sustained severe head injuries through flying glass and was removed to Foxton for medical attention. . The car and lorry sustained extensive damage. Both the left front wheels were smashed. The accident was caused by the car endeavoured to pass another car which had pulled up behind a metal truck to give right of way to j the cream lorry.
SEAPLANE ACCIDENT. AUCKLAND, October 29. A Fairey seaplane piloted by FlightLieut. S. Wallingford, was ‘damaged this morning while doiug a speed test at water level in the upper harbour. The plane had just previously been farewelling the Dutch squadron. The plane touched the water, extensively damaging both floats. Wallingford, .Corporal) Smith and Aircraftsman Andrews, were all thrown out but Squadron Lender Isitt flying behind in the Cutty Sark picked the men uninjured and took them to Hobson vi lie base, The seaplane is being salvaged and is believed not to be much damaged, apart from the floats. UNUSUAL CLAIM. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 29. The story of a man who expects to receive £IO,OOO from his father’s estate, but who has become so reduced in circumstances that he is now destitute was told in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The circumstances were related when the Court considered a claim made under the Destitute Persons Act by Horace Bertram Cogam, the defendant being Cecil Bertram Cogan, his father. From the evidence it was disclosed that complainant Horace Cogan was reduced to hawking goods in spite of his interests in the estate. He had had a romantic career, serving during the war in tbe French Army at 2}d per day. During his term on active service he was given an allowance of £2-T per month by his father. After the war he was farming in England. The case was adjourned for a mouth.
