A Pernambuco radio broadcast from Rio de Janeiro stated tlie military school had revolted, cadets being led by several high army officers. Shortly afterwards it was announced that the Navy, which had remained loyal, had joined the revolutionists. When the bulletins announcing the new movements were posted, the people went wild with. joy. The hanks and shops were closed in honour of the •victory. - RIO DE JANEIRO, October 24. The administration fell before the revolution which beginning three 'weeks ago, spread rapidly over the ■entire Republic, until but three of the major eastern seaboard states—Rio de Janeiro, Sno Pnnlci and Bahia remained loyal. The President office in November 1926 and was to have served to November loth of his year, when he’ would have been succeeded by the President elect Julio Prester. Traffic was normal in the streets of the Capital on Friday morning except from suburbs beyond the Presidential Palace, which were cut off by a military guard of the President. Later in the morning the traffic in down town streets came to a standstill and stores and residences had their irop shutters up. Gangs of rioters wrecked several newspaper offices, which had been administration supporters. A DRAMATIC SUDDENNESS. (Received this dav at 10.30 a.m.') RTO .DE JANEIRO, October 24. The blow which overthrew the administration was struck by a group of Army. and Navy officers in Rio de Janeiro, .a provisional headquarters being set up and proclamation issued to all Brazilians to end the civil warfare. It came with dramatic suddenness shortly after midnight, military police and some troops taking positions around the Presidential Palace and cutting off traffic.
General Menna Barreto, head of Rio garrison, acting in the name of the civil and military committee, went to the President, demanding his resignation, but for many hours, the latter refused.
