AUCKLAND, October 20. There was an air of mystery about the proceedings this morning at a. further meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Winifred Baker, (formerly clerk in a money lender’s office; held before the Official Assignee. „ Counsel for,bankrupt (Mr R. Singer) (said lie had not been successful in getting anything for the creditors from anybody'. Tile father and mother of bankrupt had lost several times more than the creditors put together, and they could make no offer. Supposing an offer were made, what bargain could l>e come to? Personally he could make no suggestion. . If an offer was forthcoming, did the creditors still intend to proceed ? A creditor: Proceedings wluit for? Mr Singer: All sorts of accusations have been made. Jf the creditors receive twenty shillings in the pound, do they still propose to proceed against the girl? The Assignee (Mr A. W. Watters): The matter has been referred to the Crown Solicitor, and- he will not give his certificate for prosecution.

Mr Singer ’wanted to know if certain people intended to launch independent proceedings. “If people are going to sell their raiment to help this girl, we want to know something, ” lie said.

A creditor: I think, it is a bitter game of bluff Mr Singer ; You are entitled to you r opinion. Put your hand in your pocket and see. The creditor: I have done it. Mr Singer: And been well repaid by many hundreds per cent.

In reply to Mr Cocker ( Mr Singer said lie had no proposition to make publicly. After further argument, the meeting was adjourned sine die.
