A large number of organisations that played a prominent part in the civil life disobedeuce movement, have been declared unlawful and police have occupied the headquarters of the more important of them. An immediate result of this action taken under the ordinance, has been definitely to discourage the movement. ,
.Evidence fioin various sources confirms the decline of popular enthusiasm and the growth of dissatijsfactipn against Congress methods. A sure sign of the decreasing interest is the growing tendency for convicted persons to obtain a remission of their sentences by offering an apology and pledger; of future abstention from lawless activity In Bengal alone more than 2000 prisoners have been so released. . Despite efforts made to belittle the Round' Table Conference and to hold ilp to contempt the Indian delegates who are attending it. there is an infcjentuhg recognition of its importance.
