TWO CHILDREN KILLED

Mrs Wadham, the wife of Professor Wadliam of the Aielbourne Uuivercity, was motoring last night, accompanied by her three children, on a main road between Stevenage and Gravely, when the car crashed into a lamp post and overturned. One child, Elsie, aged 8 was killed instantly, while Samuel, aged 9, died ear.y to-day in the hospital. The'youngest child, aged two years, crawled out unhurt, when the car was li ted up. The mother was' taken to the hospital, where it is believed that an operation., will he necessary. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. WELLINGTON, October 21. Further evidence was taksn to-day in the preliminary hearing of the charge against John Matthias Gamble of negligently drving a motor- car so as to the cause the death of Joseph Alfred Banks and Cicely Mabel Griggs. Air W. H. Woodward, S.M., is on tne bench. Ernest Harold Holladay, motor mechanic, with 25 years’ experience, said that when lie examined the motor, cycle fie found it in good order, and there were no defects in the steering, gear or the brakes of Gamble’s -,car. Gamble’s car was capable of a speed, of 65 to 70 miles an hour. He could, not express an opinion as to Gamble’s speed when ho left a skid mark of 124 feet on the roadway, and then damaged Mason’s store. Gamble ..must have been going faster than 40 miles an hour. Gamble reserved his defence and was committed to the Supreme Court for .trial.
