At Huntsville, Texas, prior to going to the electric chair for the murder of a sheriff and his deputy, three years ago, Joyce Shepherd, fearing the sight of the chair would unnerve him, gouged out both of bis eyes with a nail torn front bis cell ventilator.
Asked why lie did this, lie quoted scripture: “If.thine eye offendeth. pluck it out! Better for part of the body to die than be cast into hell!”
