The death took place yesterday morning at the Grey Hospital of Mr James Hughes, at the age of 56 years. Deceased who was a miner, working at Rewanui, and residing at Runanga, took ill suddenly on- Thursday night. He was a resident of Runanga for the past 25 years and was well and favourably known. He leaves a grown up son residing at Runanga and a wA'e in Lancashire, England.

Many friends throughout the district will hear with extreme regret of the death of Ml' John Forsyth,, of Kanieri, which took place at Westland Hospital last evening. He entered the institution some three weeks ago for a jserious operation, and gradually failed. Deceased was a native of Canvpie Glen, Scotland, and 64 years of age. He came to New Zealand when .18 years of age and most of the period has 'been spent in Kanieri where lie followed mining pursuits for most of that period. Deceased was a popular figure of the township and many friends will regret liis death ancl extend, sympathy to the bereaved. He leaves a widow and family of three daughters (Mrs Gunn, of Wataroa, Airs W. Houston Jiuir., of Three Mile j and Isabel, at Ka n l ari) , and one son (John) in Christchurch.
