; KING’S APPROVAL. , (Official Wireless.) • RUGBY,, Oct. 13. Lord /Sankey, the Lord Chancellor, has received the Lord Mayor-elect, Alderman Sir William Phene Neal, in the House of Lords, this morning, and conveyed to him his Majesty’s approval of the choice of the City ot London.

Sir William Phene Neal is a son of Mr William Neal, of Cherry Hinton Hall, Cambridge, and was born m 1860. He was educated at University College, London, and was admitted a solicitor in 1888. He was elected a Common Councilman for Broad street i Ward in 1893, and was chosen Aiderman of Lime street Ward in 1922. He is a member of the Horner’s Pavoir’s Loriner’s, and Baker’s Companies. His special interest in municipal work has been the administration of the markets. He was the originator, organiser, and chairman of a national conference at the Guildhall in 1921 on the subject of the embargo on the importation of Canadian cattle.. As a result of that conference, the embargo was raised, and a grievance under which the dominion had long suffered was removed. He is a Governor of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, a Commissioiner for Income Tax, and one of his Majesty’s Lieutenants lor the City of London. He married in. 1899, Eleanor , Vyse, daughter of Mr Thomas Gage Beatley, a member of ‘ the Corporator . .
