AIR FORBES’S ADDRESS. f (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, October 15. Hon. G. AV. Forbes, in a speech at -the Alotor Manufacturers’ Dinner, emphasised the’-' Empire’s , motor marketing opporturiitiei: He adcled that the United States in 1928 supplied 117,689 motor cars out of the total ol 278,742 cars sold in the Empire, and this despite the existence of heavy preferential British tariffs. He was glad that the British motor makers were gradually making up their lost ground in New Zealand, where they now had the advantage of the recently-increased preference, duty. Thus a £4OO British car was now ; entering New Zealand for £99 16s, compared with £2Bl being charged on a foreign car of the £4OO type. Mr Forbes also welcomed Sir Archibald, Body-Carpenter’s recent visiet to New ,Zealand to investigate the motor trade conditions. This was a move which other industries might follow. with advantage. i CANADIAN PREMIER’S’ APPREHENSION. LONDON, October 15.
