NELIGENT DRIVING CHARGE

PALMERSTON N„ Oct. 15.

A sequel to a fatal accident on Oroua Downs on September loth, was heard at the Police Court, when Charles John Dunbar Skinner, an indent agent of Redding was charged with driving negligently on Himatangi-Sanson road, thereby causing the death of a schoolgirl, Betty Francis Aibrey. Senior-Sergeant AVhitehou.se, for the police, stated that on the date of the accident, a number of children were on their way home from school. A boy named Aibrey, ran across the road, in froht of si grader. The boy’s sister, aged 7 years, went over to him and in so doing was struck by defendant’s car and sustained injuries resulting in her death.

Air G. Hope, who was manipulating a tractor at the rear of the grader estimated the speed of the car at 30 to 35 miles an hour, when passing, the grader, and. he did not appear to slow down when striking the child. Defendant pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial, bail being allowed.
