THE COAL SITUATION
MR H'. E. HOLLAND’S REMARK’S, (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, October 13. Air H .E. Holland," leader of the Labour Party arrived from AVellington on Friday and addressed meetings'of miners at Stockton," Alillerton and Hector outlining the coal situation and various parliamentary developments in connection therewith. He advocated the stoppage of coal importations and the systematising of coal production and distribution. At Hector, Air Holland made reference to the' Waipawa bye-election, the result of which did not affect the political situation in any way. The most significant feature was it revealed, notwithstanding the failure of the United Government, there had beep no swing back to Reform in that election.
ATr Kimbell, Under Secretary for Mines, arrived Saturday and was met by Afr Holland, District Manager of the Goal Gov., County and Publio Works engineers with whom he discussed' the. coal,'situation generally, particularly' the. prevailing distress at Alillerton. All} ’Kimball is proceeding to-day to Alillerton and . Stockton,' where he will consult with the miners" executives,. ; . . <
