WAIPAWA CAMPAIGN

(By Telegraph — Per Press Association.* WAIPUKURAU, October 6. Hon. Harry Atmore addressed over three hundred electors at -the theatre at Waipnwa to-night. The Mayor, Mr G. Hunt, presided. Mr Atmore, . who was given an enthusiastic reception, commenced fcy paying a tribute to the late Sir Geo. Hunter. He pointed out that it was the first time he had visited the district since being Minister of Education. It was not the intention of the United Party leaders to enter this contest, but certain Reform statements here had called for replies. Mr Atmore counselled the electors carefully to weigh the merits of the United and Reform Parties, contending that there must he more vigorous land settlement to correct the economic depression in the Dominion.

Mr Jull the United candidate spoke in reply to Mr Coates’s address at Takapau on September 30, saying that Mr Coates’s personal statement constituted a grave charge, and was also positively untrue in regard to his 1 . (Mr -Tull’s) attitude towards the extra petrol tax. In'conclusion Mr Jull said he was entitled to an apology for the deliberate statements made against him by Mr Coates as being unjustified and untrue. The meetting terminated with votes of thanks to the speakers, and also of confidence in the candidate of the United Party.
