EXTERMINATING RAGWORT
USE OF SODIUM CHLORATE. A demonstration of the use of sodium chlorate for combating the ragwort noxious weed menace, was given last week by Mr D. Munro, of the Department of Agriculture, in company with ‘Mr W. A. Watt, inspector of stock, at Tauranga. Mr Munro said the Department believed it had found a remedy for ragwort and many other soft-leaved make at present as to the effect of sodweeds, hut had no pronouncement to ium chlorate on blackberry. The preparation was harmless to both pasture and stock, and could be used by means o.' a spray or in powdered form. Broadcast spraying would prevent the germination of seeds in the soil. Great care is necessary in the use of the chemical, which, when dry, is highly inflammable, and almost explosive.
