LOAN REDEMPTION. BY BRITISH. TREASURY. LONDON, Oct. 3. The Treasury gives notice-in "TheLondon Gazette” of its intention to exercise -its option to • repay -at par orr January loth next, the four per cent ivar loan dated 1929-42, It also announces the issue of an. unlimited amount of four per cent.' Treasury bonds dated 1934-36, which are offered for tender.' The minimum price is 100]-. (Received tins dav at 8 a.m.) LONDON, October 3.
It is estimated the transaction will save the Treasury seven hundred thousand annually in interest.

- Hon. G. (Forbes spent the afternoon inspecting Kevv Gardens where he renewed acquaintance with Doctor Hills, to whom he explained that New Zealand’s connection with ICew Gardens began with a botanist who accompanied Captain Cook and brought back specimens of New Zealand flora. Mr and Mrs Forbes are lunching at Epping on Sunday with Lady Hudson. A ,1894 STATEMENT. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. A correspondent writes in the "Morning Post” pointing out a passage in "Paul’s life of Fronde.” The moral Fronde drew from travels in Australia, New Zealand and West Indies was the need for strengthening Imperial ties, while he ‘dreaded the , intervention of party , lenders arid desired the Colonies to take the initiative themselves. He thought that a common tariff was the direction in which true Imperialism should move, "the. correspondent adding that Fronde died in 1894 yet his words contained a very current meaning.
