SOLAR ECLIPSE
N.Z. EXPEDITION. [United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copy r glit. J NIUAFOU, October L. The members of the New Zealand eclipse expedition landed from' H.M.S. Laburnum at Niuafou Island at s a.m. on Monday. They were welcomed by l)r S. A. ivlitcliell, on behalf of the American party, who have been on the island for several weeks preparing for observations. The Americans are under the control off Commander Keppler, who extended every facility to New Zealand’s representatives. The New Zealanders started work almost immediately after landing. On Tuesday Dr Adams chose a site ffor the erection of New Zealand instruments, aiid it is hoped that a start will be made on Wednesday with the concrete work for the foundations. The Torignn Government’s new wirless station at Niuafou was opened on Monday, the opening ceremony being carried out in true native style. The dress of the natives was most picturesque, embracing all the colours of the rainbow. The singing was most harmonious, and the rhythmic dancing was a beautiful sight. AH the New Zealand party are well. This is the, first press message sent by the Tongan Government Radio at Niuafou Island.
