(United Press Association—By Electro Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received this day at 12.25. p.m.) OTTAWA, October 1. Between eighty and ninety million dollars will be used to aid the unemployment during the next twelve months under the programme of the Federal Government for the province’s railways. The Minister of Labour (Mr Robertson) announced' to-day the money will be expended on useful .public works and provide a great stimulus to business. He declared the recent tariff changes would further afford the stimulus to industrial activity. The restrictions on immigration were also inaugurated materially to aid employment. Fourteen steamship sailings from Montreal recently were cancelled for the' reason that the vessels could not operate profitably without bringing immigrants to Canada on the return voyages. One of the most important public works is the construction of a highway from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, the Federal Provincial Governments dividing the cost equally. It is announced that the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railways are embarking on a twenty million dollars, construction and improvement programme.
