A CLOSE CALL

FAMILY WAKED BY FLAMES

AUCKLAND, September 27

Members of a Mount Eden family had just time to scramble out of the windows of their home in Stokes road at three o’clock this morning when it was discovered to be a mass of flames. Mr J. Paul, the tenant of the house, was awakened by bis wife and both could hear the crackling of the flames. The family escaped through the windows with great difficulty, being nearly overcome by the heat and blinded by the smoke. The house was destroyed. It was insured at the Phoenix Office for £650 and the furniture for £3OO in the London and Liverpool and Globe Office.
