WELLINGTON DIVORCE,

WELLINGTON, September 29. In the Supreme Court, William Beech, of Martinborough, sought a divorce from Ethel Helen Beech.

Petitioner said that bis wife disappeared iiv{.October, 1925, after being interviewed by detectives, and he had not seen her since. He had discovered after the marriage that she had been married before, and her husband was alive in England. Shortly after her disappearance, proceedings were commenced in England by the first husband, and petitioner was cited as co-respondent. There was one ,ch ild £ who has been living with friends.. \ A decree absolute was granted, with custody of the child.

WOMAN ASSAULTED

WELLINGTON, September 29; William Moore, alias George Plaisted, 26, tunncller, was convicted and fined £5 by Mr McNeil, S.M., on a charge of assaulting Bessie Durant. The story was that Durant, who is a restaurant proprietor, ordered some men out 'as they were creating a disturbance. Accused was one of the men, and he went downstairs. He" struck Mrs Durant, who had followed to see that they did’not come back. ;Durant gave- evidence of having seen his twice. Accused denied being in the rest-. aprant"at' any time other than that in which he 'was' taken there for the purpose of identification.
