TARANAKI V. WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON, September 27
In the last game of the season played here this afternoon, Wellington defeated Taranaki by 11 points to a. The game was easily the- best interprovincial fixture seen at Athletic this year, for the teams were far more evenly matched than even the seven points difference between them suggests, and territorially Taranaki had a'slight advantage. Wellington however, had by far the greater finish, and though one try was rather r. lucky one, it deserved to win on the day’s play. Cooke was individually responsible for the first try, scored by Mackay, while late in the second spell Barry scored at the end of a forward rush. Cooke also kicked a penalty goal. For Taranaki, Galbraith potted a good field goal. McLean,' Cooke and Julian, all members of the Wellington team, were injured during the match.and had to retire. WELLINGTON V. MANAWHENUA. OTAGO UNION’S JUBILEE
DUNEDIN, September 28
The jubliee celebrations, of the Otago Rugby Union were brought to a close to-day with a c.hurch parade of present and past players. . There, yvsis a service in the Town Hall, which was conducted by Archdeacon I.itcliett, assisted by Rev. R. G. MelJowclj, (Presbyterian) and Rev. A. -Mead, (Congrcgationalist.) POUTER RETIRES. Wellington; September 28. Some fifty friends and admirers ot the footballer, Cliff Porter, met on Saturday to make him a presentation in recognition of the great part he has played in New Zealand football, and to mark their. Vsensjepf regret at liis retirement from Rep. honours. In reply ho spoke of having, had many hard games. / He had made, many friends'. Though retiring, he hoped to take an active interest in the game.
