THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
ONE FARMER TO ANOTHER.
The very birds seem to talk -abopt top dressing nowadays ; but then-we find that much money has been-; wait- - ed through not studying the problem. 1 Generally speaking, New Zealand needs lime and phosphates. Nitrogen makes the grass look' green, .but phosphates will make your clover grow, and the clover will'make your nitrogen for 1 nothing while you sleep, so why pay more for it? Young grass should always be sown Wltli super of preferably basic (Super ntid top dress afterwards according to your purse and your class of land. If you only have weeds in your paddock, remember all the top dressing in the world will not turn them into good grass. Ten shillings an acre spent on manure on £SO an acre land is only increasing it/3 cost by 1 per cent, but 10s on manure on £5 an acre land increases the cost by 10 per cent. ~,. —hAu East Coast Farmer.
