(To the Editor.) Sir,—On Sunday, ■ September 14th, about 1 p.m., the Elsie fired a rocket and H. Friend, Harbour Master, hoisted the beacons and signals to take the .bar. The boat passed by under sail. The Harbour Master communicated with Mr Wild (urgent) at his private house, reporting the Elsie in the roadstead outside, alid firing rockets. Then noticed the boat was still going south under sail. Had no advice whatever that the boat had not entered Okuru, otherwise would have been on the look-out for her. , , I am. etc,. H. FRIEND, Signalman, Okarito.
