MINE TRAGEDY

BLACKBALL VICTIM

Mil SAMUEL GLASSON. An accident, tlie effect ot which "'a* fatal, occurred at 11 a.m. yesterday at the mine bins in Blackball, the victim being Air Samuel Glasson, an old and re petted resident of the mining township. Mr Glasson, who for many years had oeen a pit-head employee ot the mine, was at the time of the accident- working at the bins. He had, so far as can be ascertained, uncoupled two trucks, when, upon his stepping back, some oncoming trucks crashed him against one of the pillars supporting! the bins. Dr Bennett, of Blackball, was at once summoned, and the sufferer was removed to the residence of his brother, where it was found, that he had sustained a serious fracture of the pelvis bone and other internal injuries. He was then conveyed by ambulance to the Grey Hospital, standing the journey well, hut nevertheless, it was found that his injuries were very grave, and little hope con'd he hold out lor him. He passed awe last evening at 6.20 o’clock. An inquest will he held on Friday. The late Air Glasson, who was about fifty years of ago, was a native of the Kumara district, hut for very many j years lie had, with his relatives, resided a.t- Blackball, and was an old employee of the colilory. He leaves two brothers, Joseph and Ralph, both of Blackball, and one brother-in-law, Mr Samuel Simons, also of Blackball, while Mrs Reinhamer, of Noble’s, is a sister. The Blackball miners will, out of respect for their fellow worker, cease operations until after tlie funeral. The sympathy of the Blackball eommunitv is extended to tire relatives in their bereavement.
