NOISY AIR TRAVEL
IM p R OVEM ENT INY ESTI G.A'I ED
RUGBY, Sept. 29. Careful investigation of the methods whereby air travel can be made less noisy is being undertaken by the Aeronautical Research Committee. The opinion has been expressed that this will have to come largely from Icsßoning the noises at their source, namely, by reduction ol the air screw tip speed, by silencing the exhaust, and by silencing the engine noises due to tappet rod,s etc.
Some improvement is also possible by constructing cabins with inner and outer. shells packed between with a woolly, fireproof insulator. Thih type of wall construction is being used in British civil air liners.
