SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

TE KUITI, Sept. 22
Jackie Dayey, aged \ three, a son of G. R. Davey, on the staff o-f the Te Kuiti Hospital, was accidentally* shot by his nine year old brother with a rifle which the boy found in an outroom at the hospital on .Saturday afternoon when the boys were playing together,. The rifle was kept for shooting cats. Jackie received the bullet in the forehead and the brain was penetrated. His condition is critical.
FOUR MEN ARRESTED.
NAPIER, September 22.
After waiting for two hours early yesterday morning, four men, Ronald Hugh Mclnosh, Alan'Arthur Mclntosh, James Cameron, and Frederick Quinn were arrested at Napier bv the police on the west shore embankment. They had possession of a loaded gun. This was a sequel to alleged attempted breaking and entering at Waipukurau. They were charged with being rogues and vagabonds, and with being in possession of firearms with felonious intent. Bail was fixed for a total ol £3OO. The men were remanded to October Ist.
OPIUM FINES.
DUNEDIN, September 22;
At the Police Court Kwok Poy was fined £SO sterling for being in possession of opium, pipes and other utensils. Joe Young was fined £l2 sterling for smoking opium.
OFFICES BURGLED
PAHIATUA, Sept. 22
The Tararua Power Board offices were burgled during the week end, access being gained through a rear window. A small amount of cash was taken, also a quantity of electrical appliances. An attempt to burst the strongroom was unsuccessful.
SHOP BURGLED.
AUCKLAND, September 22,
After breaking into a shop, which they found empty, thieves during Saturday night entered the next door drapers shop of Henry Hope in Queen Street and inspected his stock and selected women’9 silk stockings of better quality to the total value of £SO and packed them in boxes. They then rubbed their fingerprints off the windows and doors with a towel and departed with the booty. PREMISES ROBBED. HASTINGS, September 22.
During the week-end burglars entered the premises of T. Cunningham and Co. produce auctioneer and removed, a safe containing only a few pounds and the firms books, the proprietor having the major portion of Saturday’s takings in his possession. From tyre marks in the back yard of the premises, it appears as though a motor lorry was used to take the safe away, the latter has not yet been recovered.
