BANK HOLD-UP

MELBOURNE, September 19
In broad daylight at the Brunswick branch of the Bank of New South Wales, armed men hold,up two officers one ol .whom was hit on the head with a piece of iron. Mr W. Brooks, the Bank Teller, fired shots at the bandits, who escaped in a taxi with £3OO.

The bank b,old-up occurred white the manager was at lunch. The robbers ordered Brooks and Martin to put up tlieir hands and then struck tlie latter on the head with a piece of piping felling him. The money was gathered up |by the robbers, who rushed away, followed by Brooks who fired several shots, one of which shattered the windscreen of the taxi, the driver whereof was apparently unaware of the character of his passengers. H© was bundled off his seat to the road and his cab was driven away by one of the thieves, It was abandoned in a side street. £IOO sterling in notes was found on the seat.
Martin had several stitches put in his head wound.
CHARGED WITH ROBBERY.
(Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 20 In connection with the bank holdup, a man hits been charged with robbery under arms, a man and a woman charged with vagrancy, and another woman with receiving.
