WEST COAST RUGBY UNION.
The weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union was held lastevening at Greymouth. The Westland Sub-Union notified that they wished to nominate Mr A. Cutlmsh as referee for the Graham Wise Cup match on Saturday next. They also advised that in future they would endeavour to have teams on the field at the scheduled time. It was decided that the Saraty seven-a-.sido junior cup tournament be held on Saturday, October 4th, at Kii mara, and that nominations close on Wednesday next, -September 24th. Mr jj. Dews was appointed referee '.or the junior 'match, Cobden v. Rime, at Kumara on Satin day, for the Graham Wise Clip. The Westland Football Association were granted the use of the Recreation Ground on Saturday, September 27th.
It was decided to hold the annual senior and junior .seven-a side tournament at Victoria Park on Saturday, September 27th, for which nominations will close on Wednesday next, September 24th. Cobden juniors were declared toy winners of the Knock Out Cup. Permision was granted to the Cobden fourth grade team to travel to Hokitika on Saturday. ~ Fixtures for the week-end are:—,

In a Rugby match here to-day, Wellington Colts defeated Golden BavMotueka team by 31 points to nil. CANTERBURY V. SOUTHLAND IN vERCARGILL, September 17. A representative match between; Canterbury and Southland was played here to-day, and resulted in a win for Southland by 24 points to 12. The, weather was fine and warm, but there was a wind from the southwest. The ground was holding after rain last night. Southland were undoubtedly the better team and showed a vast improvement, ion their form against Wellington. .The game was .f.ul.of .exciting . incidents, ,and the scores came at fairly regular intervals throughout. -Both teams fielded heavy packs Of -.forwards, but in the scrums neither pack had,any.pronounced advantage. In the second spell the visitors reeajtedlv opened up the play but their passing was of a haphazard nature, and mistakes at times proved costly. There was a prosecution to-day over the issue of , an unauthorised programme and the sale of it to spectators at the .second Rugby test, match at Christchurch on July Stir The Prosecutor was J. O. McGillirav, Secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Union, and the defendants were Archibald Kennedy and 'Joseph James Meldrum. It was alleged that they printed a document purporting to lie a programme of the football match, without. an express permit. The.programme was incomplete, in that it did not contain the field numbers of the players. The defence was that the document was not a programme, but merely a souvenir.
